ThermalStats CLI 2.1: before-and-after tests, temperature curves and your ranking
Version 2.1 compares a re-test with your previous result after you clean, repaste or upgrade your cooling, uploads the temperature curve of every test, and shows where your result ranks among the same model.
ThermalStats 2.1 turns one-off tests into something you can track. Download it from the Run Test page. If you already have ThermalStats 2, download it again to get the update.
Before and after
Cleaned out the dust, put on new thermal paste or fitted a better cooler? Now you can see exactly what it changed. Once you've submitted a result, the Test options screen has a new question, Since last test. Pick what you changed: Cleaned dust, New thermal paste, New cooler, Fans / airflow, Undervolt / power limit, Laptop stand / pad or Other. Then run the test as usual.
The results screen shows your earlier peak, the new one and the difference. On the website, the result page gets a before-and-after table with a link to the earlier result, and the earlier result links to the re-test.
A few details:
- Only a result from the same PC in the last 90 days can be the "before".
- Leave it on Nothing changed for a normal test. The choice resets after every submitted test.
- Testing before and after a repaste on the same day works: re-tests can take you to 4 results a day instead of the usual 2.
- For a fair comparison, test at a similar room temperature and with the same apps closed.
Every before-and-after pair also tells us how much these fixes really help. Once there are enough of them, we'll publish the numbers.
Temperature curves
Every submitted test now includes its temperature curve, with a point every second or two. Your result page draws it, marks where the load started, and notes how long your cooling took to level off and whether it was still heating up when the test ended.
Where you rank
After you submit, How you compare now shows where your result ranks among others for the same model, for example CPU: cooler than 64% of 39 AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D results. This needs at least 6 other results for your model; with fewer, you see the average as before. The same ranking is on your result page and in the new Temperature Checker.
