ThermalStats CLI 2.0.1: 1-minute minimum for submissions, and a 30-second quick test
Version 2.0.1 only submits tests of 1 minute or longer, adds a 30-second quick test that shows your temperatures without submitting them, and explains when to use Diagnostics.
ThermalStats 2.0.1 is a small update that keeps the results database reliable. Download it from the Run Test page. If you already have ThermalStats 2, download it again to get the update.
Only tests of 1 minute or longer are submitted
Under full load, a CPU or GPU keeps heating up for a while before its temperature levels off. A very short test can end before that happens, so its peak temperature looks better than what you'd see in a game or a long render. From now on, only tests that run for at least 1 minute are added to ThermalStats. The website also turns away shorter results from older versions of the CLI.
2 minutes is still the recommended length. It gives your cooling time to reach a steady, realistic temperature.
New: a 30-second quick test
Want to check your temperatures without submitting anything? Pick 30 s (quick test) under Duration. You get the same live dashboard and idle, peak and rise readings, but the result isn't submitted. The app tells you so before the test starts and again on the results screen. Custom durations under 60 seconds work the same way.
From the command line, --duration accepts anything from 30 to 3600 seconds. Only runs of 60 seconds or longer are submitted.
When to use Diagnostics
Diagnostics (the D key on the first screen, or thermalstats --test debug) is for one situation: ThermalStats can't read your CPU or GPU temperature. It checks every temperature source and uploads a log so we can fix detection on your PC. It doesn't test your cooling, and nothing is added to the results.
If the temperature check on the first screen already shows your readings, you don't need Diagnostics. Press Enter and run a normal test. The app now says this on the first screen and on the Diagnostics screen, and suggests Diagnostics only when a sensor can't be read and the tips don't fix it.
