1. Data Controller
ThermalStats ("we", "us", "our") operates the website thermalstats.com and is the data controller responsible for your personal data. For any privacy-related inquiries, contact us at [email protected].
2. Information We Collect
ThermalStats collects only the data needed to provide temperature comparisons. We do not require accounts, passwords, or personal identifying information.
Hardware data: CPU model, GPU model, cores, VRAM, cooling type, OS, device type, and laptop model (if applicable).
Temperature data: Idle and load temperatures for CPU and GPU, ambient temperature.
Test metadata: Stress method (CLI or browser), test duration, CLI version, an anonymous session ID, and user-agent string.
Network data: We may store the country derived from your IP address for regional statistics. We do not store raw IP addresses in the database.
3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your data based on the following legal grounds:

To display temperature comparisons against users with similar hardware.
To compute aggregated statistics (averages, percentiles, cooling-type breakdowns).
To detect and prevent abuse (rate limiting, duplicate detection).
5. Cookies & Local Storage
We use cookies and browser local storage for the following purposes:
Strictly necessary: A local storage flag records your cookie consent preference. This does not require consent as it is essential for the site to function.
Session ID: An anonymous session identifier stored in sessionStorage helps link browser test submissions within a single session. Cleared when you close your browser tab.
Analytics cookies (consent required): If you consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our site. These cookies track page views, session duration, and similar aggregated metrics. Google Analytics uses cookies such as _ga and _ga_* with a retention period of up to 14 months.

Temperature submissions are retained indefinitely to maintain the accuracy of community averages. Since no personal data is collected in submissions, there is nothing to delete on a per-user basis. Analytics data in Google Analytics is retained for up to 14 months. Advertising cookies are retained according to Google's data retention policies.
11. Your Rights (GDPR & Other Jurisdictions)
If you are in the EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, you have the following rights:
Right of access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
Right to erasure: Request deletion of your data (noting that submissions are anonymous and may not be linked to you).
