Website update: every new result now comes from the verified CLI

ThermalStats exists to answer one question: are my temperatures normal? The answer is only as good as the data behind it, so we've changed how results get into the database.

New results come from the CLI only

Every new result is now recorded by the ThermalStats CLI. It reads your sensors directly and measures temperatures during a real stress test, so nobody has to copy numbers from another monitoring app by hand.

Results typed into the browser test were self-reported and impossible to verify: a typo, or a reading taken at the wrong moment, looked exactly like a real measurement. Those older browser results stay visible when you browse the database, but new ones are no longer added.

The browser test is now an instant comparison

The browser stress test hasn't gone anywhere. Run it on any device, enter the temperatures from your monitoring software, and you'll immediately see how they compare with verified CLI results for the same hardware. Nothing is saved, and there's nothing to sign up for.

Cleaner cooler and laptop names

Cooler and laptop models are typed by hand, so the same product showed up under dozens of spellings. We counted about 30 for the Thermalright Peerless Assassin alone. New submissions are now cleaned up automatically, so results for the same cooler or laptop are grouped together, and older results are next. The exact text you typed is kept alongside the cleaned name.

Home page numbers now count verified tests

The counters on the home page now count verified CLI data only: tests, contributors, and the CPU and GPU models with at least one full stress test. They used to count every model name ever entered, including legacy browser entries and display adapters that aren't GPUs, which made the model counts look bigger than the data behind them.
